Omdat de avonden verlicht werden door kaarslicht kwam het gezicht van de vrouw niet goed tot haar recht. Door gebruik van was bedekt met witte poeder ontstond een bijzondere uitstraling. De witte poeder werd later gemengd met water en vormde zo de pasta (Kabuki-Oshiroi), die sinds dien gebruikt wordt.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Als de pasta ook is aangebracht op de hals en nek, worden daar stijllijnen aangebracht, zodat de hals en nek, smaller en langer lijken. De Geisha\u2019s zijn 1 tot 1,5 uur bezig met het opmaken.
